Challenges and Solutions of Teaching Social Skills to Elementary School Students from the Perspective of Elementary School

Abstract

The current research was conducted with the aim of identifying the challenges and solutions of teaching social skills in elementary schools. This research was designed and implemented as a qualitative study of the type of inductive analysis with a coding system. The participants of this research were 16 elementary school teachers who had master's degrees in educational sciences and social sciences and had more than five years of teaching experience in elementary schools, and were selected by purposive sampling. Research data were collected through semi-structured interviews in a purposeful manner and in compliance with the rule of theoretical saturation, and their analysis was done by inductive content analysis. Based on the findings of the research, the challenges of teaching social skills in elementary school are: challenges related to parents, challenges related to educational content, challenges related to teaching, social challenges, related challenges with classroom management and student challenges. The findings of the research showed that the strategies for dealing with challenges include: strategies related to parents , Solutions related to educational content , solutions related to teaching,, social solutions, classroom management solutions, and student solutions (identification of students in terms of family conditions, in terms of social skills status, etc.).
