This study has been conducted with the purpose of investigating the degree of enjoyment of secondary high school biology textbooks from Ornstein and Hunkins' seven criteria according to the teachers' lived experience. A semi-structured interview tool was used to collect data. The statistical population included all secondary high school biology teachers in the towns of Kashan and Aran and Bidgol in academic year 2023-24. Purposeful snowball method was used to do the sampling and it went on up to the theoretical saturation point. Strauss and Corbin's systematic method has been used to analyze the data such that the data were coded in three stages (open, axial and selective coding). Careful investigation of the codes revealed that the core codes of "lack of interest in content" related to the interest criterion, "low importance of content" related to the importance criterion, and "lack of accuracy and originality of the text of books" related to the credibility criterion had the highest frequency among the themes. The least attention was owned by the core codes of "encouraging content in teamwork" related to the self-sufficiency criterion, "appropriateness of content to ideological issues" in the feasibility criterion, and "up-to-dateness of content" in the credibility criterion. So, it is suggested to review and modify the headings and texts of the above-mentioned books along with the global developments of biology science, the learners' real life needs and utilizing the existing limited facilities at schools.
