The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of lateral thinking training on problem-solving and social innovation skills of student teachers at Farhangian University. The study population was 200 students enrolled in the 1401 elementary education program at Farhangian University of Hamadan. The sample size was determined to be 74 people, and simple random sampling was used to select these people, and 37 people were placed in the experimental group and 37 in the control group. The data collection tool included the Heppner and Peterson Heppner Problem Solving Questionnaire and the Social Innovation Questionnaire. Before the experiment began, the two experimental and control groups completed the problem-solving questionnaire and the social innovation questionnaire as a pre-test. The experimental group was trained for 9 sessions of 75 minutes using the lateral thinking training method. The control group was trained using the traditional method (lecture). After the sessions in the experimental and control groups ended, the problem-solving questionnaire and the social innovation questionnaire were administered again to both groups, and after data collection, they were analyzed. Data analysis was performed at both descriptive and inferential levels with SPSS software. The results of the study showed that lateral thinking training had a significant effect on the problem-solving skills and social innovation of student teachers at Farhangian University. According to the results of the present study, it can be concluded that lateral thinking training can strengthen the problem-solving skills and social innovation of student teachers.
