Generation Z students have a profound impact on the current educational environment, and the extent of this impact is such that they cannot be expected to adapt to the traditional school environment. This generation has specific characteristics, expectations, and preferences in the contemporary educational environment, and their effective leadership requires a precise conceptual recognition by educational administrators. Therefore, in this regard, the present study aimed to design a leadership competency model for Generation Z students in secondary schools in Kurdistan province. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach and a phenomenological method. The participant population included 20 university professors in the field of educational sciences and managers with executive experience in the field of education in Kurdistan Province, who were selected purposefully. Thematic analysis was used in two stages to analyze the research data. Based on the analyses conducted, the conceptual structure of the findings was organized into three levels: basic themes, organizing themes, and overarching themes. A total of 5 overarching themes, 13 organizing themes, and 85 basic themes were identified. The five overarching themes included: transformational and forward-looking leadership in education, supporting infrastructure and resources necessary for implementing competencies, professional and personal competencies of managers, human resource development, and a learning organizational culture, and the ultimate outcomes and effectiveness of programs.
